What is perplexing is it appears that all three phases are available on the primary side, why would this be necessary? Perhaps it was not always so at this location. Regardless, this was the source of power for 20 KW FM transmitters since until we moved it to a new building last month. This diagram shows the wires that supply power to the VFD, the wires that provide voltage from the VFD to the motor, and all the necessary input and output signals that the VFD needs for operation. The value of this voltage can be , , or volts. The 3-phase voltage is converted to DC voltage in the rectifier section on the VFD where six diodes are connected as a 3-phase full-wave bridge rectifier. The next components in this circuit are the choke and the capacitors that make up the filter section of the VFD.
The capacitors and choke provide a filter that removes all of the sinusoidal ripple and any trace of the original frequency. These transistors are turned on by a pulse-width modulation PWM control circuit that times the conduction of each IGBT so that a PWM wave is produced that looks like a sine-wave output. The transistors are turned off approximately 12 times for each half cycle. Each time the transistor is turned on, its amplitude will be adjusted so that the overall shape of the waveform looks like a sine wave.
The time each transistor is turned on is adjusted as the frequency for the output signal is adjusted.

Its possible to run a 3 phase motor on single phase if you hook up 2 of the 3 leads to the signle phase and then pull a rope really fast thats wrapped around the shaft of the motor.

I need a quick course in phase converters. An english is not my first language got my number from a friend. He does grainte countertops, and has this huge programable saw from China. The saw is 3 phase, and the breaker inside is amps. He has tried to install a 15 hp converter, but messed it up, and now has a 40 hp converter to hook up. I want to make sure the the customer understands what he needs. The customer has a amp breaker to install inside his amp panel. The motor on the converter has a name plate of 98 amps for volt.
How do I determine the ocpd for the converter? Should I hook the thing up without worries about what he is going to attach to it? The saw runs along a track, so getting a ground to the machine will present some problems. The converter is a genrac softstart. The guy is going to hook this up with or without me, I just want to keep my friend safe. I hope I have included everything.

I’m designing an electromagnetic stirrer to go on a cold plate for an anodization system. No one seems to sell anything like it with the cooling power I need, so I’m looking at doing it myself.
The cooling unit is thermoelectric, and I’d like to have the specimen a beaker with chemicals. I’d like to design a nice low-voltage 3phase induction motor, and use the magnetic stirring bar as the rotor inside the beaker. I was in doubt that this would work, since there’s no shaft to keep the bar magnet in place, but since then I’ve found out that cole-parmer and a few others manurfacture these things and brag that there are no moving parts.
Since the load is nothing more than mL of solution, the torque requirements are negligible. I’d like to make it variable speed also.
