If not, why not? The grounded secondary neutral would establish stable phase-neutral voltages on the primary. I’ll admit that this is a bit unconventional and requires two transformers where one delta-grdY transformer would do, but if you already have the Y-Y transformer, it might be the easiest way. I can see your reasoning. The zig-zag grounding transformer could be smaller only having to handle the fault currents available on the secondary of this Y-Y transformer instead of being required to handle the fault currents of the building power system. Grounding the secondary neutral will have no effect on the floating primary neutral. A zig-Zag transformer on the secondary might work but it is doing the job the hard way. You could also connect a wye delta transformer to the secondary with the wye points connected. This would balance your secondary voltages within a few percent. The transformer sizing would be based on the maximum unbalance possible rather than the full load current.

The new style white or grey transformers have spike suppression and if rated correctly for the input voltage, are OK. There’s absolutely no problem with using those blue transformers in analogue mode to drive analogue engines, or use them for lighting, signals, points etc. The mains input voltages mentioned below relate to the New Zealand scene which is where I’m at, of course. To check this out I did take some voltage measurements on a few old Marklin transformers chosen at random from some I could easily lay my hands on.
Someone brought me an old A transformer to look at the other day though, and I measured that as well. Check the output voltages as well, but even if all appears ok, bear in mind what Marklin and ESU both say. One way around the problem might be to put a couple of back to back Zener Diodes across the transformer output to limit the voltage, but I haven’t tried playing with this, and it’s probably a lot easier just to restrict their use to analogue devices.
Nothing wrong with the idea but there’s a couple of “gotchas”. Be very very careful with the wiring and switching, and make sure that under no circumstances can you have both power sources analogue transformer and digital controller powering the track at any one time. There’s no quicker way to blow up the output stage of your nice new digital controller than by having “foreign voltages” on its output.
If you have accessories decoders on your points and signals, you won’t be able to feed them directly from the track power as one would normally do.
